What they arrived with
Barnes Plumbing & Heating is three experienced plumbing and heating engineers, led by Nick Barnes, working out of Little Somerford, just outside Malmesbury: gas, oil and LPG, boilers and bathrooms, and the call that comes when the heating has gone. They arrived with a website that was not quite theirs. The terms of the company that built it registered the domain in its own name and kept the copyright of the site, and notice to leave was only accepted by post. What Nick did own was his logo, his photographs and his words, which turned out to be everything that mattered.
The real constraint
People look for a plumber when something has already gone wrong, usually on a phone and usually in a hurry, so the number has to be found in a second and work with a single tap. Everything a heating business says about itself can be checked, and should be: a Gas Safe registration, an OFTEC number, a Worcester accreditation. And a team of three spends the day on jobs, with nobody in an office to answer an email the minute it lands.
The thinking
- Everything in the business's name, from the first day. The domain, the code and the content belong to Barnes Plumbing & Heating. If they ever want to take the site elsewhere, there is nothing to ask for and no letter to post.
- The number is never far away. Every page leads with the phone number as a button you can tap, each service puts it right beside what you get, and the quote form asks how urgent it is before anything else, pointing an emergency straight to the phone.
- Every badge says what it means for you. A Gas Safe logo means a great deal to a heating engineer and rather less to someone whose boiler has just stopped. So each registration turns over to explain, in plain English, what it means for the customer, with its number and a link to the official register to check it.
- A page for each town, and every village on a list. People search for a plumber in Malmesbury, not for a company name. So Malmesbury, Chippenham, Tetbury and Cirencester each have a page of their own, with a map of the villages around them, and the areas page lists sixty-eight towns and villages, A to Z, each linked to the town page that covers it.
The build
The brand's own colours carry the whole site: the flame gradient and the water drop taken from the logo Nick already had, on a deep blue-black and a warm paper white. Every service, question and area lives in a single content file, so a new service brings its own page, menu entry, footer link, sitemap entry and structured data with it. The quote form checks itself as you go, keeps bots out quietly and sends each enquiry straight on by email. The animation switches off entirely for anyone who prefers less motion, and visits are counted without a single cookie. Structured data, a plain summary written for AI assistants and questions answered on every page mean a search engine, or an assistant asked for a good plumber near Malmesbury, can tell exactly who they are and where they work.

Working model
Three registrations, and what each one means for you
What it means for you
By law, anyone working on gas in your home must be Gas Safe registered. It means the engineer is qualified for that exact job and does it safely and legally. Every engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card, so ask to see it.
What it means for you
OFTEC is the body for oil heating. Our oil boiler and tank work meets OFTEC standards, and we can certify it under Building Regulations ourselves, so you get your compliance certificate without a separate inspection.
What it means for you
We can register a qualifying new Worcester Bosch boiler for an extended manufacturer's guarantee, well beyond the standard cover, when it's fitted with a Greenstar System Filter. Keep it serviced every year and the guarantee stays in place.
On the site, each one also links to the official register, so anyone can check the number for themselves.
What happened
Live since 9 October 2026 at barnesplumbingltd.co.uk, with the quote form taking enquiries from the same day and all seventeen pages submitted to Google. The figures that belong here, the calls and the quotes, will follow once there are enough of them to mean something.
